Wow, today's class went by extremely fast. There was a lot of great work just as there was on Tuesday. If I had to choose one that was the most powerful it probably would have been the sculptural piece with the open photo album, child's shoes, candle, and shells. This one was most striking for me because of its dual simplicity in execution but complexity in content. I did not know the confession until Alyssa revealed it to the class. The fact that multiple meanings were derived from me and my fellow classmates clearly demonstrates the success of the piece as a confession. Although it seemed simple, you could tell that Alyssa carefully chose the placement of all of the elements in order to evoke the most reaction. It was the most well executed and edited project I have seen thus far.
in terms of improvement I think that i would choose the piece with the paint on the floor (sorry I couldn't remember the name of whose it was). I liked the idea of the changing colors and I thought using red and blacks paints symbolized her message very well. However, although we discussed this in class, I feel that she could have made the paper a bit longer or at the end she could have acted as if she had nowhere to go with all of the paint still on her feet. Therefore it would convey the message that the pain and regret she feels still affect her. I like that she kept the paint on her feet in the end but perhaps she could have made wiping it off her feet a part of the performance as well. In this way, it would be a sort of cleansing away of her confession since she finally revealed it to the class.
