Sequence Narrative Proposals

For my sequence assignment I want to imitate the style of one of my favorite artists, Rene Magritte. I do not quite know the story I will choose yet. Here are my proposals:

1. Photographs/Nursery Rhyme: To execute this idea I wanted to take a common nursery rhyme, re-enact it, then take photographs to eventually present the narrative how I see it in real life. I plan on using some of Magritte's surrealist aesthetics to distort some of the images perhaps when I photo-shop them. I think that this idea would work best because I could combine the fantasy and fiction of a childhood story with the reality in the items I choose to use and the way that I shoot them. For instance, I could use common objects and materials but distort the setting so that they have more of a surrealist feel.

2. Music: I do not have an exact plan for this idea but I think that music goes along with sequence very well and I have wanted to incorporate it in some of my art work. I thought about rearranging the lyrics in a song so that they tell a new story other than the one of the artist. I am not sure how I could present this in the style of Magritte however. I guess if I chose this idea then I would imitate the style of the band which first wrote the song. Or, better yet I could imitate the style of a band from a totally different genre.

3. Literature/Illustration: In my previous blog, I think on Wednesday, I mentioned how I would also like to find a way to incorporate writing into my art work. I thought about imitating the style of one of my favorite authors, maybe Milan Kundera or Dave Eggers, and reinterpreting one of the passages from their books. I could either illustrate my interpretation of it or make it come to life by once again incorporating photography. This idea may be a little too straight forward. I am confused whether I should use their point of view or my own.

These are my proposals for the project so far. Although I was confused, like the rest of the class seemed to be at first, I am beginning to understand how I can retell a story using sequence and narrative. We'll see what I come up with :)
