Art Show! Yummier/Brainsickly

On Tuesday evening I went to the opening reception for the MFA students entitled "Yummier/Brainsickly." I was intrigued by the title because it confused me but once I saw the artwork, it all seemed to fit together. Most of the artwork was produced out of common or everyday materials. They were made to stimulate the brain, whether due to their complex meanings or literally by the use of lights and installations. The bright colors and materials chosen, which were often everyday objects like vacuums or masking tape, also seemed to fit the theme. Even the food seemed planned accordingly. I basically ate a bunch of candy, juice, and jello. Here are some of my favorite art pieces put in slide-show format:

I got excited and used Movie Maker for some reason haha. Anyways, I was really impressed by the work I saw. My favorite were the light installations I believe were by Nick Loewen. Nick was my ta last quarter for Art 1A so I was excited to see some of his work. These were my favorite because of the use of changing colors, patterns, illusion, and messages that he incorporated into the pieces. I am still not exactly sure what the meanings of each piece were but they definitely made me think, which is always an artist's objective.
