Last Lecture
I am very sad to see this class come to a close. I'm not sure if I'm up for all of the crying that Kip was mentioning in his other classes such as "Personal Narrative" but I may give it a shot in the future because I really enjoyed having him as a professor. I like how in this last lecture we mainly went over artists we have seen before to reiterate the connection between art and life. Basically I have learned that the two do not exist as two separate entities. Every performance piece or art work crafted came from questions that the artists had about the world around them. This was clearly exemplified in the student's piece entitled "My Circle." The concept was so simple and yet it caused such an ordeal. I was pretty disappointed at the way the observers acted towards the project. They all took it as an invasion on their own hidden "circles" as opposed to them invading the one drawn on the ground. Everything was changed because of the space he decided to do it in. This made me think twice about my personal space project. Although I have already come up with an idea, I feel like I could do something more interactive and telling of the people who choose to participate. I was thinking something with a wishing-well on campus. I don't know if I want to build it or use something already there. The truth would come in the "wishes" people make. I was thinking I would have them write them down or somehow confess them, while still remaining anonymous. The lecture today basically just made me think a lot more about how my work can affect those around me. I just hope that I do not change my mind again :P
